What we do

Overview

KidzCare primarily reaches out to primary and secondary school students living in Chai Chee and surrounding neighbourhoods. Since our founding in 2013, we have worked with over 200 children and youths, and benefited from the help of more than 100 volunteers and partnerships with over 30 organizations. KidzCare is a non-profit initiative driven by volunteers. KidzCare runs a series of free programmes for children and youth who may require additional support. Our mission is to ensure every child is given the opportunities to succeed in life, regardless of family background and household resources.

Our Programmes

PSLE Preparation
Programes

We provide structured tuition classes for P5 and P6 students in English, Maths and Science to prepare them for the PSLE. The tuition is conducted by professional tutors…

Excursion & Enrichment Programmes

During the school holidays, various outings and enrichment classes are organized to give these children exposure to a range of activities they might not otherwise enjoy. Past outings have included trips to the Zoo, Snow City, Science Centre, and even participation in water sports…

English Literacy Programmes

We realize many of the children suffer academically because they lack the foundation in English. The English Literacy Programme is designed to build a foundation in reading and literacy for Kindergarten to lower-primary students…

Learning Through Service

We also make effort to teach our children the need to pay back to the society and we created opportunities for them. We get the children to help to clean and paint the rental flats of the elderly, do beach cleaning, help out at the homes…

OUR TESTIMONIALS

“Being a Volunteer with KidzCare has allowed me to grow as a person as I learn from the very students I teach. They have taught me empathy, patience and understanding. Beyond that, this opportunity has fostered my heart for the community, allowing me to contribute meaningfully beyond just academics as I see the students grow as personally as well.”

The KidzCare programme is a labour of love by a group of warm, spirited volunteers who share a pressing need to bridge the resource gap for children from less advantageous backgrounds. Targeting children who lack the necessary support, the volunteers lovingly curate programmes to engage the children after-school hours, including homework support, reading programmes and tuition classes. They maintain a close relationship with parents to understand their children’s needs and ensure their regular attendance. The volunteers show tireless, patient care for the children and their families, and delight when KidzCare children take ownership of their own learning. Even during the pandemic, volunteers struggled to ensure that classes were continued for children, to make sure they do not get left behind. We have the pleasure of partnering the KidzCare team to support their tuition classes for their pupils, and we hope to further our work with them (through them). KidzCare IS a labor of love indeed!

I joined KidzCare @ Kembangan- Chai Chee in 2017, and that was a life-changing decision. KidzCare introduced me to another side of Singapore that was rarely seen, and that really put into perspective many things that we usually take for granted. Interacting with the children at KidzCare was extremely meaningful to me, not just because I could help them with their academics, but because the children also taught me things that I never knew before. While the children at KidzCare typically come from challenging backgrounds, interacting with them drove in the lesson that they are not only beneficiaries that we help, but they are just like any other child. To broaden the children’s experiences, KidzCare brings the children to many different enrichment and extracurricular activities. This programme gave me many opportunities to appreciate how there truly are many pathways to success. It also helped me hone my leadership and organizational abilities through planning for these experiences. All in all, KidzCare gave me a unique experience that helped me change my worldview and interact with precious children.

I gained insights into Singapore, friendships and above all the satisfaction of helping a child through Kidzcare. I got to see that even in a very successful country there are people who need help. When a child tells you that I like coming to KidzCare because of the air conditioning it says something. I was very impressed with the resources which are made available to volunteers. I particularly liked when volunteers would bring their children to volunteer. Most of all I could use what I learned when I taught my daughter PSLE maths to help someone else’s daughter clear her PSLE maths paper. Places like Kidzcare are testament to the fact that society is moving in the right direction.

When I first started volunteering with KidzCare back in 2017, I had initially only expected to tutor a few kids before leaving. However, as the years passed, what made me continue volunteering was seeing the kids I taught grow, not just academically, but also as a person. I personally enjoyed how KidzCare not only helped the children with their education, but also took it one step further, to ensure the kids have fun and take breaks by organizing exciting activities like sports days and excursions to the Bird Park. I loved how these activities allowed the kids to not only see us as tutors, but as their friends and people who they can trust. Helping out with KidzCare has certainly been very fulfilling for me as I witness the kids being encouraged to learn and grow, and this is an experience I would never want to stop!
